INSPIRE.

The School Social Workers Association of Missouri (SSWAM) and the Midwest School Social Work Council are excited to bring the 51st Annual Midwest School Social Work Conference: “Inspire. Motivate. Engage. Lead.” to Clayton, MO!

The conference will be held October 17-19, 2018 at the centrally located Sheraton Clayton Plaza Hotel. Professionals in the fields of school social work, education, and mental health from across Missouri and eleven other Midwest states are expected to attend.

It's not too late! We have only a few open workshop spaces left and will accept workshop proposals through 5/1/2018, or until all workshop spaces are filled. Please submit a workshop proposal ASAP.


Keynote Speaker


Keith Herman, PhD

"Motivational Interviewing in Schools"


Dr. Keith Herman is a professor in the School Psychology and Counseling Psychology programs at the University of Missouri. He is also a licensed psychologist and co-director of the Missouri Prevention Center. Keith earned his doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Florida and retrained in School Psychology at the University of Oregon. He also completed postdoctoral fellowships at Brown University and Johns Hopkins University. Prior to coming to MU he was a faculty member in Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Keith's expertise is in school and family preventive interventions for youth showing early signs of emotional or behavior problems. He routinely provides trainings and consults with teachers and families about a range of topics including parenting, behavior supports at home and school, stress management, and cognitive behavior therapies for youth problems.

He is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), an international group of MI trainers. He presents nationally and has published four books and over 80 peer-reviewed articles and chapters. Much of his work focuses on applying MI in working with teachers and families to promote effective environments for children. His key collaborator and co-author on most of his work is his wife, Wendy M. Reinke.
